I initially did this little drawing back in 2018, after having a vivid dream about a cure for a plague that was ravaging a past version of myself and my friends. It kept springing to my mind this year, for obvious reasons, and led me to try animating it, if only to alleviate the pulsing fury felt towards the ongoing anti-mask protests in my city. The pulsing motion is done to a recording of my breath after an anxiety-inducing confrontation by a man yelling at retail staff because he didn’t want to don a mask.
Breathing has become such a central theme in much of my life these days.

As the pandemic sailed into its second year, I had an overwhelming feeling of false starts and retreats. Like me and many of my colleagues were evolving and expanding, and then were hit by a hard wall and forced to de-bloom, only to begin the process over again. I made this in an attempt to process that eerie feeling and also as an experiment in multi-media animation.
